The Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering is a huge project. Imagine planning one performance, with one performer, backup musicians, and an audience. You would need to book a performance space; contract with the performers; arrange for the right sound equipment; advertise the show; sell tickets, making sure not to overfill the venue; recruit donors and sponsors; and so on. Now multiply that work for 7 ticketed shows, 30+ free performances, a keynote address, 2 breakfasts, and 2 suppers, and you have some idea of what the Gathering looks like behind the scenes. It's really almost 50 events packed into 2 short days.
"Why do it, then?" you might ask. "Why tackle something on this scale?" Because the benefits don't just add up — they multiply! It's so exciting to have so many great performers in one small town, working together, learning from each other.
Members support the Gathering all year round, which enables us to make the details happen.
