Known for his work on guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, pedal steel guitar, harmonica, accordion, trumpet, and vocals with The Rifters, Don was a founding member of the near-legendary Colorado band Tumbleweed (1973–1990) and the Colorado-New Mexico band Hired Hands (1992).
Don lives in Alamosa, Colorado and has appeared on dozens of recordings by many of the region's top artists, as well as numerous projects under his own name and with his former bands. Don's multi-instrumental skills help provide the variety and excitement audiences enjoy in a Rifters' performance. He also covers lead and harmony vocals.
The recording studio Don founded in the early 1980's has evolved into Howlin' Dog Records, a small regional label focused on the area "from Alamosa to Austin." Howlin' Dog can now help selected artists with the entire lifespan of a record, from the initial planning and financing through recording and production, and then into promotion and getting the word out to the world.
